Motion Design

DETAILS
In my motion design course, I explored my typographic and visual vocabulary through the use of time-based composition, sound, and animation. In these four projects, I was able to learn more about the rhythmic and expressive use of type in kinetic media and become very comfortable with using Adobe After Effects

PROJECT
  • Motion

For this project, we used to design and create a kinetic type and image promo for a branded product, service, or a future conference or event. We explored how the information can be kinetically conveyed to the viewer and how the integration of type, image, and movement conveys the feeling, theme, and/or ethos of the brand. I chose to do my motion design project on the group chatting platform, Discord.

This project involved communicating physics and literal actions with motion with a given word. The action defines the message rather than composition, shape, color, type, etc. My word was “glitch” so I intended to create the feeling of a glitch by manipulating and stretching letterforms.

For this project, we were given the task to take a poem or nursery rhyme and communicate it through animation. I chose to do my project on the quintessential Halloween poem, “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe. I wanted to evoke an eerie mood and portray the internal torment of a man in the modern-day.

This project was about picking a chorus or a lyric of a song. The main goal was to enable words to mimic motion from the real word and move visually and kinetically while syncing with the audio.
